Store Credit Cards: Reviews, Rewards & Login Guides
Store credit cards are cards branded by a retailer, like T.J. Maxx, Target or Sephora. They usually have no annual fee, give extra rewards or discounts at that store, and are often easier to get than bank cards. The trade-off is a high APR (often 27%–32%), so they're best for people who pay in full every month.
How Store Cards Work
- Store-only cards (private label) work only at the retailer and its sister brands.
- Co-branded cards carry a Visa, Mastercard or Amex logo and work everywhere, usually with bonus rewards at the store.
- Most are issued by a handful of banks: Synchrony, Comenity (Bread Financial), TD Bank, Barclays and Citi.
- When you apply, the bank often approves you for the co-branded card or the store-only card depending on your credit.

- Go paperless to avoid paper statement fees (some Comenity cards charge them).
- Watch reward expiration dates on certificates.
- Don't open several store cards at once; each application is a hard inquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do store credit cards build credit?
Yes. They report to the credit bureaus like any credit card, so on-time payments help your score.
Are store cards easier to get?
Usually yes, especially the store-only versions. Approval still depends on your credit.
Can I pay a store card at the store?
It depends on the retailer. Many (like Sephora and T.J. Maxx) don't accept card payments at the register; payments go through the issuing bank online, by phone or by mail.
